Alfa Romeo 146Alfa Romeo 146 model was a compact family car. The car production was carried out in the period between 1994 and 2001 at the plant in Pomigliano d'Arco, Italy. About 233 thousand cars came off the production line in total.
Alfa Romeo 146 I generationConcept presentation took place in 1994 at the Turin Motor Show. Production Alfa Romeo 146 model entered the market at the end of the same year. The car was developed on the Fiat Tipo ZFA160 base. Chris Bangle (Christopher Edward Bangle) from the Fiat Style Centre headed the development of design. The car was produced in the body of a five-door hatchback, which was its only difference from the three-door Alfa Romeo 145 hatchback.
When designing the front and rear bumpers designers鈥� priority was to provide reliable protection of the vehicle at collisions. Exterior design of these elements was considered a secondary characteristic. The vehicle had high for its class aerodynamics value - 0.32.
In the front of the body a small V-shaped grille was located with the company's logo. Under the grille distinctive air intakes were placed. Large rectangular headlights had rounded corners. A stamping out trapezoid traditional for the company鈥檚 models was made on the hood.
Alfa Romeo 146 engine was placed in the front part of the body. The drive went to the front pair of wheels equipped with ventilated brake discs. In order to increase safety, modifications were equipped with anti-lock brake system (ABS).
Basic Alfa Romeo 146 car equipment included electric windows, central locking, immobilizer, electronic adjustment of side mirrors and power steering. The manufacturer offered fog lights with washers and air conditioning as additional options.
Production of the first generation cars continued until 1997.
Alfa Romeo 146 I generation restylingIn 1997, the car received new light alloy wheels, improved interior trim and an updated dashboard. Standard equipment included an airbag for the driver and anti-lock braking system (ABS).
In 1998, some modifications were equipped with new alloy wheels 15 inches in diameter, a chrome exhaust pipe and an updated spoiler. Besides, the manufacturer improved the quality of interior trim materials.
In 1999, the manufacturer made minor changes to the model design. Door handles, bumpers and side mirrors became painted in car body color. In 2001 release of Alfa Romeo 146 was stopped.
