In their standard configuration Alfa-Romeo 156 cars were equipped with proprietary anti-theft system Alfa Code, body-colored bumpers, climate control, central locking, alarm, sunroof, adjustable steering column, and a headlamp alignment system. Safety was provided by the anti-lock brake system (ABS), brake force distribution (EBD) and airbags.
As additional options the company offered leather trim, a spoiler, sport low-profile tires and alloy wheels 16 inches in diameter. In the Nordic countries headlight washers, front fog lamps and seat heating system could be purchased.

The car got an updated design of the front and rear bumpers, a sporty kit Turismo Internazionale, reinforced suspension, wheels with a diameter of 17 inches and a new leather interior. The model production was discontinued in 2007.
