Alfa Romeo 159Alfa Romeo 159 assembly was done in the period between 2005 and 2011 at the plant in Pomigliano d'Arco, Italy. A total of about 240 thousand cars rolled off the assembly line. Over the years of production one generation and two restylings of the car were released.
Alfa Romeo 159 I generationPresentation of the Alfa Romeo 159 production model was held at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 2005. Auto was designed at GM/Fiat Premium platform. The first cars were only available in a sedan body. In 2006, in Geneva, the manufacturer introduced Alfa Romeo 159 estate, and a few months later serial production of these cars began.
The car design was developed under the leadership of Giorgetto Giugiaro. Front lights consisted of six circular shape elements arranged in two deep recesses. V-shaped grille smoothly evolved into widening projection on the hood surface.
Compared with its predecessor Alfa Romeo 159 model became larger, and the car interior turned out more capacious and comfortable. Interior trim was done in the style of the manufacturer鈥檚 previous sports cars. Devices were located in the deep recesses facing the driver.
In the base configuration Alfa Romeo 159 cars got on-board computer, climate control, central locking, electric adjustment of heated side mirrors and headlights, electric windows, electric key identification, as well as a built-in immobilizer.
Also standard equipment of all models included anti-lock braking system (ABS) with force distribution module (EBD), seat belt pretensioners, active headrests, front and side airbags. In 2006, by the results of EuroNCAP tests Alfa Romeo 159 passive safety was rated at the maximum 5 stars.
The manufacturer offered installation of xenon lights, navigation system, rain sensor, an improved audio system and cruise control as additional options.
Alfa Romeo 159 I generation restylingIn 2008 the car received the electronic differential, new seats with improved lateral support and improved interior trim. The manufacturer reduced the weight by 45 kg.
In 2009 the presentation of the Alfa Romeo 159 second restyling was held at the Geneva Motor Show. The car received minor interior changes, an improved brake system and new fuel-efficient engines. The quality of vehicle assembly was significantly improved. In 2011 the production of Alfa Romeo 159 was discontinued.
