Alfa Romeo Montreal is a sports coupe with the seat arrangement 2 + 2, produced from 1970 to 1977. The assembly was carried out at the company's plant in Milan, Italy.

In 1967, as part of the centenary celebration of Canadian Confederation, the International Exhibition was held in Montreal, where the world presented their best achievements in the field of science and technology. Being the only automaker guest the Alfa Romeo company sent to the exhibit two prototypes, the design of which was created by Carrozzeria Bertone studio and mechanical components were borrowed from the Alfa Romeo Giulia model. As originally intended by the company, these prototypes were prepared for the role of designers skills demonstration: after showing on exhibitions, they had to stay in the company museum.

However, the elegant coupe caused genuine interest of the public, that didn鈥檛 weaken even months after a Canadian exhibition. Insistent requests of dealers from the United States and Canada led Alfa Romeo to begin mass production of the model, called Alfa Romeo Montreal. Interesting, that originally the international exhibition-1967 was to be held in Moscow, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution. In this case, a new model of Alfa Romeo would get a very different name.

Alfa Romeo Montreal coupe made its debut at the Motor Show 1970 in Geneva. In comparison with the prototype, the car became a little higher and got a bulgy hood, which was caused by the installation of a more powerful engine. However, the chassis, taken from the Alfa Romeo Giulia, did not correspond to the weight and power of Alfa Romeo Montreal, which in reality took the form of a significant roll when cornering. The exterior of Alfa Romeo Montreal cars (body profile, elongated hood with air intake in the middle, the shape of the doors and windows, and even the air vents on the sides) much resembled Lamborghini Miura, which is not surprising: they were created by the same designer Marcello Gandini. Typical grilles over lights on the hood had already been tried on the concept of the Porsche 911 Roadster. For the time, Alfa Romeo Montreal cars were richly equipped with power windows, air conditioning, interior lights, bitonal horn, a trimmed with wood steering wheel.

Unfortunately, the oil crisis of the mid-1970s did not allow Alfa Romeo Montreal to build on success, on the contrary, the production of sports coupes had to be curtailed. There were produced 3925 copies, with a total of 50 cars in the last two years of release.
