Citro毛n SaxoCitroen Saxo was produced by the French concern PSA from 1996 to 2003. In total, one generation of the model and one restyling were released. Citroen Saxo cars were assembled in Aulnay Sous Bois (France) and Mangualde (Portugal).
Citro毛n Saxo I generationRelease of the first generation of Citroen Saxo was organized in 1996-1999. The official premiere of this car took place in December, 1995. The car came to the stock production in 1996. The model was constructed on the extended Peugeot 106 base and has inherited the majority of its units. The car body was well protected from corrosion, and the passenger compartment was comfortable and ergonomic. The design of the car differed in simplicity and asceticism: straight lines, narrow rectangular headlights and black mouldings located on each side of the car. Safety belts and airbags, the ABS system, the power steering, heating of a rear screen and the air conditioner were included in a basic package of cars. Cast disks, a CD player, the ultrasonic alarm system, front fog lights and a tachometer were offered as an additional options. The model was available in a body of a three-door hatchback.
Citro毛n Saxo was also released by limited series differed from the original model in trimming of an interior and exterior. In 1998 1000 copies of Citro毛n Saxo New Morning model were released. The body of these cars was two-color colouring. The interior was sustained in the same tones 鈥� dark gray and light gray. Two-colour seats were decorated with bright red inserts. In some cars the passenger compartment was trimmed by chamois of beige and dark blue color.
At the end of 1996 on the basis of Citro毛n Saxo the electric vehicle Citroen Saxo Electric was constructed. The car could overcome running of 80 kilometers without recharge. As a power source, nickel cadmium batteries were used. The full charge of the battery required about seven hours, but by means of the special equipment it was possible to reduce charging time to forty minutes. Before the end of production in 2003, 2174 copies of Citroen Saxo Electric were released. It was one of the best figure in the European market of those times.
Citro毛n Saxo I generation restylingThe car got the first minor changes of the exterior in 1997. The radiator grille was updated, the shape of tail lights was changed. It is impossible to call this modernization a full restyling.
In 1999 restyling of Citro毛n Saxo took place. The car had almond-shaped headlights, additional reinforcement ribs on the hood, the updated fenders and the radiator grille. Direction indicators were integrated into head lights. Seats became more comfortable. The five-door hatchback was added a three-door hatchback in a range of bodies.
