Fiat 500It is the compact car for the city life, its production was arranged in 1957 in the Italian cities of Turin, Dezio and Palermo. Release of these cars continues nowadays. In total two generations of Fiat 500 in bodies a three-door hatchback, a cabriolet and a minivan were presented.
Fiat 500 I generationOne of the smallest cars in the world 鈥� Fiat 500 Topolino released from 1936 to 1954 - was a predecessor of Fiat 500.
In a war time and post-war years Italians were not able to buy even inexpensive car, so the FIAT company thought of the new project. It was offered by the young employee from the German office Hans Peter Bauhof. He sent to the Italian company the project of a two-seater car with the engine located at the back of the car. The idea was pleasant to the management of the company and the Fiat 500 car was produced, the first generation of this car was released from 1957 to 1975. It is considered one of the first city cars.
From 1957 to 1960 the model was produced in a body of a three-door hatchback with a fabric roof opened to a half. Modification received the name Nuova 500.
From 1960 to 1965 Fiat 500 D was released. It had two essential differences: powerful engine and sloping form of a roof. During the same period modification in a body of a minivan 鈥� Fiat Giardiniera - went on sale.
From 1965 to 1973 Fiat 500 F was produced. The doors with new type of an unclosing (loops were located on the front rack) were set onto this car. Interior design was the same as at the first car of release of 1957.
Fiat 500 L was produced from 1968 to 1972. It is a three-door hatchback with the updated dashboard. The chrome plated elements in an exterior are the distinctiveness of this car.
The last modification of the first generation is Fiat 500 R. In spite of the fact that the design of an exterior and interior differed in simplicity, it was very stylish and comfortable.
Fiat 500 II generationThe new line of petrol engines was created for the second generation presented in 2008. The producer managed to connect the best traditions of the 50th years of the 20th century and a tendency of the modern car industry. In 2008 Fiat 500 of the second generation received the "The European car of year" award.
The updated three-door hatchbacks were presented at the market. The design of an exterior changed cardinally: headlights were replaced by less expressive ones, the chrome plated elements and larger disks were added. In the passenger compartment the updated comfortable ergonomic seats were established. The dashboard was decorated with a larger sun-protection peak that made indications of devices well readable. Buttons and control levers were located at the optimum distance from the driver.
Since 2010 production of cabriolets with the weak roof was arranged, and in 2012 the seven-seater minivan of Fiat 500 L was presented. It considerably differs from the previous compact versions and is constructed on the long wheel base. The back row of seats can be put closely to a floor thus increasing the volume of a luggage compartment. In the car there is a thoroughly thought security system with side airbags. The specific features of Fiat 500 remained in an exterior of a car, but also a lot of new features appeared: wide mouldings on doors, the chrome plated slip at the rear bumper and logo badge on the hood.
