Ford C-MaxFord C-Max is a minivan of the American carmaker. The concept was presented in 2002 at the Parisian motor show. Production of stock model is organized since 2003 at plants in Germany, Spain, the USA.
Ford C-Max I generationProduction of cars of the first generation continued till 2006. Ford C-Max was constructed on the C1 platform which was used at the creation of Ford Focus.
It was a very comfortable car with the same dimensions, as seven-seater models had, but was only a five-seater. The back central seat was transformed into a little table or a wide armrest with a holder for glasses. There were more than 10 compartments for personal belongings and a glove box of 10,5 liter in the passenger compartment.
In Ford C-Max the Integrated Remote Imaging System thanks to which the driver could watch what happens in the compartment was installed. The image from a video camera was transferred to the special PDA device.
Ford C-Max I generation restylingIn December, 2006 at the automobile exhibition in Bologna the updated Ford C-Max model was presented. The car received the updated design according to the Kinetic Design concept accepted by the concern. Double trapezoid radiator grilles were set, wheel arches were increased and the angular shape was given to the headlights. Nevertheless, the company announced that the car has the Kinetic Design elements only, but was not executed in this style completely.
Ford C-Max II generationThe second generation of Ford C-Max was presented at the exhibition in Frankfurt in 2009. The car was designed on the Global C platform. Besides, the 7-seater minivan of Ford Grand C-Max appeared in the market.
Ford C-Max became one of first cars using new system of a vector engine torque in differential gears. Also the minivan got the back parking camera, parking assistant, panoramic hatch, two-zonal system of climate control and navigation system. The drag coefficient was lowered to 0,30.
Ford C-Max Hybrid and Ford C-Max EnergiIn 2011 at the North American international exhibition in Detroit the Ford company presented two hybrid modifications of the second generation 鈥� Ford C-Max Hybrid and Ford C-Max Energi. Stock production of these cars for the American market was organized at Wayne plant in Michigan, and for the European market 鈥� in Valencia, Spain.
From the moment of production, C-Max Hybrid was positioned as the competitor of Toyota Prius V. It had to become the most available hybrid car for the Americans. In September, 2012 the car took the ninth place on number of sales, having overtaken Toyota Prius V positions. The car received the "Green Car Vision Award" from "Green Car Journal".
Ford C-Max Energi received positive comments from Environmental Protection Agency. The car differed not only in low fuel consumption, but also in additional useful functions, for example, in a recuperative braking. In 2013 Ford C-Max Energi was in the list of five finalists of the nomination "Green Car Vision Award" from "Green Car Journal".
In 2014 at the International exhibition in Las Vegas the concept of C-MAX Solar Energi working at solar batteries was presented. It is result of collaboration of the companies Ford, SunPower Corp. and Institute of technology of Georgia.
