Mazda Demio
Mazda Demio is the popular car released since 1996 till nowadays. Production of the car is organized at the plant in Hiroshima, Japan, and also in Spain and Colombia.
In 2008 the third generation of Mazda Demio won the "World Car of the Year" title, and the fourth generation in 2014-2015 won the 鈥淛apan鈥檚 Car of the Year in " award.
Mazda Demio DW
Production of Mazda Demio started in 1996. The model was based on the Mazda DW platform. It was a five-door hatchback that got unexpectedly high sales both in the domestic Japanese market, and outside it.
In 1997 the model won the "Car of the Year" title from Automotive Researchers' and Journalists' Conference.
Mazda Demio DW restyling
In 1999 the restyling of the car of the first generation took place. The exterior of the car was changed slightly: new bumpers and mouldings were installed on the car. Also the system of filtering and heating of air in the passenger compartment was improved, transmission was replaced and the electronic stability control system (ESP) was installed.
Mazda Demio DY
Designers presented a new generation of Mazda Demio model in 2003. The car was created on the updated Mazda DY platform. In the domestic Japanese market the model became very popular 鈥� it came seventh on sales among all available cars.
At all packages the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake force distribution system (EBD) was set, and the system of electronic stability control (ESP) was added as an extra option.
Designers developed three packages of the model (Cozy, SPORT and Casual) aimed at very narrow target audiences.
Developers created a hybrid modification of Mazda Demio model. The use of an electric motor only for the front axle in four-wheel drive modifications became an innovation.
Mazda Demio DY restyling
In 2005, a restyling of Mazda Demio model of the second generation was presented. The design of the exterior was slightly changed and the number of modifications increased.
Mazda Demio DE
The third generation of Mazda Demio cars cardinally differed from previous ones. The car was created on the new Mazda DE platform. It was presented at the automobile show in Geneva and at the International automobile show in Shanghai in 2007.
The body became more rounded and had better aerodynamics. It was made of lightweight metal alloy that reduced the total weight of the car. Also designers changed the shape of headlights, bumpers and the rear end.
Production of the car was organized in Thailand, Indonesia, Iran and Vietnam.
Mazda Demio DE restyling
During restyling of 2011, designers improved considerably the car suspension, ignition system and replaced the plastic details of the interior with polyurethane ones.
Mazda Demio DJ
At the Geneva automobile festival in 2014, developers presented the fourth generation of Mazda Demio model. The car was based on the mixed Mazda CX-5 and Ford DE platform. The model became available also in a sedan body.
The design of the exterior was considerably changed: developers made the body shape rounder, increased the size of headlights, installed a wide shield-shaped radiator grille. Also fenders and rear-view mirrors were updated a little.
Mazda Demio in the market of the different countries
For the domestic Japanese market Mazda Demio model went on sale under the Mazda 121 name.
In the markets of the Asian countries, different generations of Mazda Demio were named as Mazda Metro, Ford Festiva Mini Wagon and Mazda2. In the USA the fourth generation of the car was released under the name of Scion iA, and in Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico the car was called Toyota Yaris.
