Mercedes-Benz 190 is the subcompact car produced in 1983-1993. Assembling of this car was organized in Germany, Thailand and Poland. At the time of the debut, the car was the least representative of the model range of Mercedes-Benz.

The debut of the Mercedes-Benz 190 car took place in November, 1982. Originally production was arranged in Sindelfingen, Germany. In comparison with other sedans of the company, the body of the car was shortened by 30 cm. When creating this model, new light-metal alloys were used that allowed to reduce the weight of the car to 1080 kg. The car body differed in resistance to rust thanks to a high-quality anticorrosion coating.

Mercedes-Benz 190 was characterized by a high degree of safety. The car was equipped with anti-lock braking system (originally it was the additional option, and since 1991 ABS began to be included in a basic package). Mercedes-Benz 190 became the first representative of the model range of the 80th years of the XX century equipped with the manually operated hand brake. Besides, it was the first car of the German producer with independent five-lever rear suspension. It allowed to increase comfortableness of driving and to provide excellent stability on turns.

The producer paid special attention to environmental friendliness of the Mercedes-Benz 190 car also. Since 1985 catalyst converters were installed on the modification with petrol engines.

In 1989 the car in Sportline package was released. The car had the sport suspension. Anatomic seats were an extra option.

In 1988 there was a restyling of Mercedes-Benz 190. Changes concerned front and rear bumpers. The plastic pad for protection of the body against mechanical damages appeared on the doors. Seats were also improved. On the right front fender there was notching that increased an air flow to the engine.

In 1988 in Northern Korea Mercedes-Benz 190 was produced under the names Kaengsaeng 88 and Pyongyang 4.10. The Sungri company, engaged in production of the car, had no Mercedes-Benz license.
