SEAT Malaga creation historyProduction of SEAT Malaga cars started in 1984. The model was one of the first independent developments of the SEAT company after the termination of cooperation with the Fiat concern.
The design of the body was created under the leadership of Giorgetto Giugiaro. Development of the interior was charged to the Karmann and Astesa body design studio. The car had an angular body, massive wheel arches, rectangular headlights, the radiator grill in the form of a grid and wide black mouldings on each side. The interior differed in simplicity and functionality. Expensive modifications had the air conditioner, the indicator of level of braking fluid, the digital watch and tachometer, the central armrest for passengers on rear seats and an adjustable steering wheel. Because of the reasonable cost, a capacious baggage compartment and varied equipment the SEAT Malaga cars enjoyed a wide popularity in Spain. Nevertheless, by quality of assembly and technical characteristics they conceded to the competitors Opel Kadett, Volkswagen Jetta and Fiat Regata, therefore they did not have a special popularity in Europe.
A new radiator grill with horizontal edges began to be installed on the SEAT Malaga cars In 1987. In 1989 the design of cars was a little restyled again. The radiator grill and moldings were painted in colour of the body. New bumpers began to be installed on the car. In 1991 the release of the outdated model was stopped.
