The Toyota Cressida model is a business class car. Production of this car was organized from 1976 to 1991 at the plant in Aichi prefecture, Japan. Production of the first generation of Toyota Cressida began in 1976. The company developed the car as the leader for the western market on the basis of the Toyota X platform. The car went on sale in bodies of a sedan, a coupe and the station wagon.

The car differed in the original design developed according to requests of the western consumers. The model became one of the most comfortable cars in the class thanks to an effective noise isolation and the soft suspender.

The basic package of Toyota Cressida cars included the hydraulic power steering, the air conditioner, a heating system of a rear screen, adjustable seats and the quality audio system. As additional options the producer offered power windows, the hatch in a roof, a heating system of side mirrors and a leather inner trim.

In 1979 the producer made changes to design of the car. Generally the front bumper was changed. Also the chrome plated mouldings appeared on side doors.

Production of the second generation of Toyota Cressida began in 1980. The car was released in a sedan and the station wagon bodies. Dimensions of the car and wheel base were increased. Head lights became square, black mouldings were offered as an option.

In 1983 Toyota Cressida got the ventilated disk brakes and independent rear suspension. Also there were changes in the design of an exterior: the chrome plated radiator grille consisting of large cells replaced thin black one, lines of the body became smoother, tail lights gave way to the block headlights.

In 1984 production of the third generation Toyota Cressida began. The car was released in a station wagon and a sedan bodies. Aerodynamic characteristics of the car were significantly improved. Dimensions and wheel base were increased once again.

In 1988 the fourth generation of Toyota Cressida went on sale. The car was produced only in a sedan body. The most noticeable element of the front part of a body was the massive bumper over which squared wide headlights were located. Fog lights were hidden in the niches under the bumper.

Wide side glasses of Toyota Cressida X80 provided good visibility. The plastic moulding located on the side surface of the body. Over a massive rear bumper the producer placed squared tail llights.

The car differed in the elaborated interior design, comfortable seats and high quality of materials of the inner trim. The two-seat back seat was equipped with an armrest. Officially release of the model was stopped in 1991.

This car was called Toyota Mark in domestic market of Japan.
