Toyota MatrixToyota Matrix is the five-door hatchback created in the cooperation of the Toyota and General Motors companies. The model is based on the Toyota Corolla base. It is manufactured at the plant in Cambridge, Canada, since 2003 till present.
Toyota Matrix E130The first sales of Toyota Matrix began in 2003. The model had similar engines and transmissions as were used in the Toyota Corolla car. Nevertheless, the emphasis was placed on more powerful modifications.
In 2005 designers carried out small face lifting 鈥� the shape of head lights and position lights was changed. Besides, the dashboard was stylized.
The Standard package included the transformed seats, plastic door handles and rear-view mirrors. It was possible to put seats and receive a cargo compartment of 1,5 cubic meters. All packages also had a set of front and side airbags and brake force distribution system (EBD).
The improved XR and sports XRS packages included also stylized massive bumper with additional protectors, the steering wheel fitted by genuine leather, anti-lock braking system (ABS), climate control and 16-inch cast disks.
In 2006 designers have expanded a line of packages, having added expensive XRS and M-Theory packages released in limited edition.
The car got the highest ball on safety of the driver and passengers within NHTSA crash tests. All security systems worked ideally at a head-on and side crash at a speed of 60 km/h.
Toyota Matrix E140The second generation of the Toyota Matrix model was presented in 2007 in Las Vegas at the auto show of Specialty Equipment Market Association. The car came to the stock production in 2008.
The exterior of the car remained almost invariable. Designers have only made both bumpers more stylish and changed a hood shape a little. The main emphasis was placed on functionality of the car.
For the markets of Canada and the USA, developers provided different packages of the model. The basic and improved packages were available to all the markets, but sports S was created for the USA, and the most expensive, XR, 鈥� only for Canada. In 2009 the model entered the Mexican market. Basic packages of efficient models were mainly imported.
In 2010 the system of electronic stability program of the car (ESP) became a standard option for all the cars, and in 2011 designers also added the emergency stop technology Smart Stop.
Toyota Matrix E140 restylingIn 2010 designers stylized front part of the Toyota Matrix of the second generation. The car began to look more aggressively at the expense of an angular form of the front bumper and the extended headlights. Also designers have a little changed a shape of rear-view mirrors and back light signals.
Import of the Toyota Matrix model to the American market continued till 2013. Sales have fallen more than by 3 times, and the management of the company decided not to continue the development of the model. Release of the car in the Canadian market ended in 2014.
