Volkswagen Polo
Volkswagen Polo is a popular car produced since 1975 till present.
Initially the car was manufactured in Wolfsburg, Germany, but later production was also arranged in Spain, Slovakia, Russia, Argentina, China and in some other countries in Europe and America.
Volkswagen Polo 19751994
The first generation of the Volkswagen Polo model was presented in 1975. Actually, it was the renewed version of the Audi 50 model. Differences between these models were slight, but Volkswagen Polo was a little cheaper than its analogue. The car was released in sedan and 3-door hatchback bodies. Designers provided only petrol modifications.
In 1979 developers carried out restyling of the model, the bumpers were replaced; the shapes of the radiator grille and the dashboard were changed.
The second generation of Volkswagen Polo cars was released in 1981. The car had an altered design of the nose. Except a classical sedan and a hatchback, the model was produced also in a station wagon body. Developers increased the number of available modifications considerably. Also diesel modifications were created. Their sales varied depending on the country.
During restyling of 1990, the car of the second generation had a new design of the nose. New rectangular front headlights were set on the car, the radiator grille was updated, the shape of both bumpers was changed.
Volkswagen Polo III generation
The third generation of the model was released in 1994. It was basically a completely new car. It had practically nothing in common with the model of the second generation. The body had a rounder shape and became more streamlined. Besides, engineers improved fuel supply and suspension. Cars were also produced in a 5-door hatchback body.
Volkswagen Polo had a number of titles from popular automobile magazines:
- "Car of the Year" from "What Car?" in 1995;
- 3 "Best Supermini" awards from "Complete Car of the Year", "Auto Express" and "Which?" magazines in 1997;
- "Best Supermini" from "Top Gear" in 1998;
- "Best Economy Car" from "Used Car Buy" in 1999.
Volkswagen Polo III generation restyling
In 1999 designers changed the exterior of hatchbacks a little. They had new front headlights, the changed shape of bumpers and the improved materials of interior trimming of the passenger compartment.
Volkswagen Polo IV generation
In 2002 engineers presented a completely updated model of the fourth generation. The car had a new shape of the body, double round front headlights and a rectangular radiator grille.
The Volkswagen Polo station wagon enjoyed huge popularity in the countries of Latin America, Africa and Australia.
Volkswagen Polo IV generation restyling
The altered headlights caused negative responses among European consumers therefore the designers chose to merge the headlight clusters during a restyling in 2005. Also the shape of the front bumper was a little changed. Principal specifications remained invariable.
Volkswagen Polo V generation
The fifth generation of the model was presented at the automobile festival in Geneva in 2009. The car was based on the PQ25 platform. The model received an extended wheelbase, increased load-carrying capacity and larger boot volume. With the last row of seats folded, the car volume was 950 liters.
Volkswagen Polo V generation restyling
In 2015 bumpers only were changed in the exterior of the car. Also designers carried out cardinal change of the interior. Besides, engineers improved all the electronic systems of the car.
