Fiat DunaRelease of the car under the name Fiat Duna for the European markets began in 1987 and was carried out till 1992. Only one generation of the model and one restyling were released at this period. Production of Fiat Duna for domestic market of Latin America continued till 2000. In Argentina Fiat Duna was in great demand and for six years was in the line of best selling cars.
Release of Fiat Duna cars was organized in Brazil in Betin and in Argentina at the plant in Cordoba.
Fiat Duna I generationThe first Fiat Duna car was sold in Italy in January, 1987. The model was constructed on the platform of a popular Fiat Uno hatchback. Therefore technical characteristics and design of both cars were practically similar. Fiat Uno was made in a body of a hatchback, and Fiat Duna, constructed on its platform, 鈥� in a body of a sedan. A little later in the same year the Fiat Duna Weekend station wagon was released.
Fiat Duna cars differed in efficiency and large volume of a trunk. An analog watch, head restraints and heating of a rear screen were included in a basic package of the model, and the dashboard with a tachometer and a digital watch, power windows and the central lock were available as extra options.
In Europe the car was not in great demand, and in 1991 the production of a Fiat Duna sedan for the European market was terminated. Nevertheless, Fiats Duna in a body of a five-door station wagon continued to be exported from Argentina and Brazil. The three-door Fiat Duna station wagon was presented in Europe by the commercial Fiat Penny model.
Fiat Duna I generation restylingIn 1989 there was a restyling of Fiat Duna. The radiator grille was updated, the shape of bumpers and head lights was changed. Racks were painted in black opaque colour. Some changes concerned an interior also. The design of the updated model was developed by the known studio Italdesign.
Fiat Duna in the markets of the different countriesIn domestic markets of Brazil and Argentina Fiat Duna was known under the name Fiat Premio. The Fiat Duna Weekend station wagon was on sale in Europe as Fiat Elba. In Italy Fiat Duna Weekend had the name Innocenti Elba.
