Fiat MareaFiat Marea is the midsize car built on the basis of the Bravo/Brava models so there is no wonder that they had the external similarity. Fiat Marea cars were released since 1996 in bodies of a sedan and the station wagon (the last is known under the Fiat Marea Weekend name). Production was carried out at the plants in Italy (came to the end in 2002), Turkey and Brazil (proceeded till 2007).
Fiat Marea I generationThe new model succeeded Fiat Tempra which restylings and improvements were unefficient. Thanks to the Marea compactness, designers could reach optimum aerodynamic indicators (a drag coefficient equals 0,29). In comparison with the previous model, the Fiat Marea body began to be partially galvanized that increased the term of its service.
The Fiat Marea sedan and the station wagon were also widespread in Italy as police cars. The Fiat Marea cars were released by the limited edition in a cabriolet body, designed by the Fiat Style Center. They were used generally by taxi drivers of the island of Capri.
In spite of the fact that the design of Fiat Marea was quite standard, the technical range of the new model had a great variety: there were more than 20 Fiat Marea modifications . The model was presented at the market in three packages: basic SX, the intermediate ELX and the richest HLX (it had light-alloy disks, the electric drive of mirrors, power window and headlight washers).
Fiat Marea in BrazilIn 2002 sales of Fiat Marea ceased in Europe because of release of the new Fiat Stilo model. However in Brazil the model enjoyed popularity and continued to be manufactured, having two restylings. So, in 2001 the front part of the car stern was changed, back headlights were borrowed from Lancia Lybra, materials of the passenger compartment and a steering wheel were updated.
Restyling-2006 also affected the tail of the car and a radiator grille which became to look like other Fiat models.
By 2007 all the assembling lines of Fiat Marea production were stopped, Fiat Linea was ready to replace this model.
