Release of Fiat Tempra cars in Europe was organized from 1990 to 1996. In total, one generation of the model and one restyling were presented. The main difference of this model from Fiat Tipo on which platform it was designed is a body: producers, practically without changing technical characteristics, released Fiat Tipo in a body of a sedan and gave it a new name 鈥� Fiat Tempra. This model was produced in Cassino (Italy), Betin (Brazil) and Bursa (Turkey). In Brazil release of Fiat Tempra was carried out till 1998.

Fiat Tempra was designed to compete with the Ford Escort and Peugeot 306 models and became the best budget alternative to more expensive cars in the class. Despite low cost, the modern devices as, for example, the digital dashboard, the ventilated brake disks, the ABS system, the central lock, power windows, the on-board computer, cast brake disks, a safety steering tube and so on were used in Fiat Tempra. A digital watch, the sensor of open doors, electric adjustment and heating of mirrors, the hatch with the electric drive, hydraulic headlights and seats heating were included in the most expensive packages.

The known studio IDEA was engaged in designing of this model: the simple and practical exterior was not deprived of elegance as it was necessary for buyers. This model differed in low drag coefficient (Cx = 0,297) so it was possible to cut fuel consumption.

As far as bodies were concerned, only sedan was available firstly, a little later producers released the station wagon. For the market of Brazil the Fiat Tempra Coup茅 and Fiat Tempra Turbo were released.

Distinctive feature of Fiat Tempra cars was the strong and reliable body with a galvanized area equal to 70%. In 1995 production of this model was stopped, but in some European branches Fiat Tempra was released till 1996.

In three years of production in the world more than 400 000 copies of Fiat Tempra were sold, about a half of this number are the station wagons.

In 1993 there was a restyling of Fiat Tempra. The car had the updated bumpers and the radiator grille, extra airbags on the dashboard and at the driver鈥檚 side, and also intensifying beams for strengthening of doors. Changes have concerned also some elements of an interior. A large number of additional options was included in a basic package.

After the termination of production of this model in Europe it continues to be released at the Tofas enterprises in Turkey under the new name 鈥� Tofas Tempra.
