Release of Ford Escort was carried out from 1968 to 2000. After restyling of the third generation in 1986, Ford Escort cars received absolutely new design: bumpers became more widely and overflowed into the case smoothly, lines of a body and its elements became more roundish. Also tail lights were completely changed. Considerable changes concerned also an interior: seats, the dashboard, a power steering and door panels were updated.

The fifth generation of the model was released in 1990-1993. Designers improved design and an interior, however the car did not enjoy popularity. Also producers have expanded quantity of additional options, added power windows, the power steering, the central lock, the conditioner and the ABS system.

In 1993 the Ford Escort designers decided to make design of the car more modern. In an inner trim better materials were used, shape of headlights were changed, diffusers of front direction indicators became white. In the radiator grille the oval cut of an air inlet appeared.

The sixth generation of the model was released in 1995-2000. Producers improved roadability of the car and passive safety; elements of an interior and an exterior got rounded shapes. The set of the standard equipment was significantly extended.

In the market of North America this car was on sale under the names of Ford Laser Coupe and Ford Escort for some time. Since 2014 the model was produced in China for domestic market of the country only. New cars are constructed on the basis of Ford Escort II.
