Ford Orion was produced from 1983 to 1993. Its release was organized in Germany. The car was offered only in a sedan body. In total three generations of Ford Orion were presented.

The first generation of the model was produced from 1983 to 1986. The car which succeeded Ford Cortina sedan was constructed on the basis of Ford Escort 鈥� cars had similar principal specifications and almost identical design of an exterior. Only back parts of both models differed a little.

Cars had sport seats, the central lock, the on-board computer reminding to the driver of servicing terms, head restraints and electric heating of a windshield. All this was a rarity for cars of middle class of the 1980th. At that Ford Orion was cheaper than the competitors. In the most expensive complete set Ford Orion cars had leather seats, and in the compartment finishing wood was used.

In 1986 Ford Orion of the second generation was presented. Lines of the front part of a body became smoother and the soft, and bumpers became wider. The producer equipped cars with the ABS system, the updated door locks, and also modernized a line of engines. Release of cars of this generation was carried out till 1989.

Ford Orion of the third generation was produced since 1990. In finishing of the compartment velour fabric was used. The hatch, and in some complete sets back screen wipers entered basic equipment of cars. Radiator grille and other elements of an exterior were made of chrome.

The updated design and the improved principal specifications did not bring the expected popularity therefore in 1993 it was decided to stop Ford Orion production.

Till 1998 Ford Orion cars of the third generation were released under the name Ford Escort.
