Volkswagen Fox

Production of Volkswagen Fox cars continues since 1987 till present. For these years three generations and two restylings were presented. Assembling of the car is organized in Argentina and Brazil (cars for the market of South America are manufactured in San Jos茅-dus-Pinyays, for the European market 鈥� in San Bernarda-du-Kampu).

Volkswagen Fox I generation

Production of the first generation continued from 1987 to 1991. These cars were available in bodies of a two-door and four-door sedan and a station wagon. Originally model was on sale in North America only. The rectangular front bumper and halogenous headlights were the distinctiveness of the exterior of the car.

When designing the Volkswagen Fox car some units were borrowed from the Volkswagen Golf model. The car received front disk brakes and back drum ones.

Volkswagen Fox I generation restyling

In 1991 there was a small restyling of the Volkswagen Fox model of the first generation. Updates affected a car exterior. The front bumper was changed. After restyling. the model was produced in bodies of a two-door and four-door sedan. Production of station wagons was stopped.

Volkswagen Fox II generation

From 2003 to 2007 release of Volkswagen Fox cars of the second generation continued. Since 2003, the model is on sale in the markets of Latin America. The European premiere took place at the motor show in Leipzig in 2005. Cars of the second generation were released in bodies of a three-door hatchback and five-door Cross hatchback. The model had new modern design and equipment. The car was constructed on the PQ24 platform developed by Volkswagen AG concern. Cars had independent suspension and McPherson struts.

Cars in Cross hatchback body differed from standard cars in enlarged dimensions and a high road clearance. The length of the Cross hatchback body is 4 034 mm, width 鈥� 1 677 mm, and height 鈥� 1 600 mm while the corresponding parameters of a three-door hatchback made 3 804, 1 640 and 1 544 mm. On the roof of Cross hatchback there were cross roof bars. The trunk volume of these cars could increase from 260 to 1 016 l.

The special attention at building of the model of the second generation was paid to safety. Two frontal air bags and anti-lock brake system were included in the basic package:. The car received four stars during EuroNCAP crash tests. As an additional option, side air bags were also offered.

Volkswagen Fox II generation restyling

In 2005 restyling of the Volkswagen Fox car of the second generation took place. Besides three-door hatchbacks and Cross hatchbacks, five-door hatchbacks were also produced. The radiator grille was painted in black colour, protective trim appeared on the doors.

Volkswagen Fox III generation

Since 2009, the third generation of the Volkswagen Fox model is produced. Cars are available in bodies of a three-door and five-door hatchback, Cross hatchback, and also the five-door station wagon. On the roof of Cross hatchback and station wagon there are longitudinal racks.

Length of the station wagon makes 4 178 mm, that is 144 mm more larger, than the length of Cross hatchback. It positively affected spaciousness of the luggage compartment and convenience of passenger compartment 鈥� the place for legs of passengers of the back row of seats was increased.
