Opel Commodore
Opel Commodore is a large car produced from 1967 to 1982 in Germany. Three generations and one restyling of the car were released.
Model AThe first generation of Opel Commodore was produced from 1967 to 1969. Designed on the basis of the Opel Rekord C, new model was positioned as its version - more high-speed and elite. Opel Commodore cars were available in bodies of two and a four-door sedan, a two-door coupe and a cabriolet.
At the end of 1967 there was a sports modification of Commodore GS.
Model A restyling
In 1969 as a result of restyling of the model, fuel tank volume was increased (from 55 to 70 litres), and the parking brake lever was moved from the lower part of the dashboard to the place between front seats.
In March, 1970, one more sports modification Commodore GS/E which could accelerate to 197 km/h - was presented.
Model B
The second generation of Commodore launched in 1972 was also constructed on the basis of Opel Rekord D. The line of bodies remained invariable; however the stylish coupe was in much bigger demand, than the others.
Model C
The third generation of Opel Commodore, appeared at the end of 1977, differed in rich equipment. Producers offered cruise control, power windows, heating of seats, the electric drive of side mirrors and the air conditioner. The coupe was succeeded by the Opel Commodore Voyage station wagon, with front part of a body copying the Opel Senator model.
In August, 1981, it was decided to terminate the production of Opel Commodore cars, and in 1982 they were replaced by the Opel Senator model.
Opel Commodore in the markets of the different countries
During the period from 1973 to 1976, Opel Commodore cars of the second generation were assembled in Iran and had the name of Chevrolet Iran or Chevrolet Royale. In South Africa Opel Commodore was known as Chevrolet 3800.
In Great Britain, sedans of the third generation had the name Vauxhall Viceroy. In the United Kingdom the Commodore Voyage station wagon was presented in the single copy which was specially designed in 1981 for transportation of dogs of Elizabeth II.
