Opel Frontera
Opel Frontera cars were released from 1992 to 2004. Two generations and one restyling of this car were presented. The project of the model was acquired by the German concern Opel AG from the Japanese Isuzu brand. Transmission was manufactured in Japan, engines � in Germany, and assembling of the cars was carried out in England. Also there were modifications with diesel power units of the Italian production.
Model A
Opel Frontera cars debuted in 1992. Production of the first generation continued till 1995. The model was produced in two bodies � the three-door SUV (Opel Frontera Sport and Opel Frontera Soft Top) and the extended five-door SUV (Opel Frontera Estate). Cars resembled the Japanese Isuzu Rodeo SUV in the design. There were removable panels over rear seats of Opel Frontera Sport modification.
Model A restyling
In 1995 the Opel Frontera model of the first generation was modernized. Changes concerned rear suspension (leaf springs were replaced with coil springs) and the rear door (its lower leaf slided aside, not down). The spare wheel which was earlier lying in the trunk, was fixed on the fifth door now.
Model B
From 1998 to 2004 release of the second generation of the Opel Frontera model was organized. The exterior was slightly changed: the radiator grille, a front bumper, tail lights were updated. In sports modification of Opel Frontera Sport the triangular side window was set. Rear side lights were combined with deflectors of passenger compartment ventilation.
The electronic system, allowing to switch the all-wheel drive on and off pressing the button, became an important innovation. Such function was activated at the request of the driver at the movement of a car with a speed from 100 km/h. As a result of modernization, aerodynamic characteristics of cars and a noise isolation were improved. Front full-size airbags and safety belts with pretensioners were included in a basic package of cars of the second generation.
Opel Frontera in the markets of the different countries
Opel Frontera was on sale in many countries under different names. Depending on the region of sale, the three-door SUV was called: Honda Jazz and Isuzu MU (Japan), Isuzu Amigo or Isuzu Rodeo Sport (USA), Vauxhall Frontera Sport (Great Britain), Holden Frontera Sport (Australia).
The five-door Opel Frontera SUV was known under the following names: Isuzu Wizard (Japan), Isuzu Rodeo or Honda Passport (North America), Isuzu Frontier (South America), Chevrolet Frontera (Egypt), Isuzu Cameo or Isuzu Vega (Thailand), Chevrolet Rodeo (Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia). In the countries of Europe and in Australia the popular car bore the names Vauxhall Frontera and Holden Frontera.
