Opel Olympia
Opel Olympia was produced from 1935 to 1970. Cars were manufactured in Russelsheim, Germany. The name of the car was caused by the Olympic Games of 1936 which took place in Berlin.
Model I generation
The Opel Olympia model debuted at the beginning of 1935 within the Berlin auto show. Same year the stock production of the car started. Cars of the first generation were released in bodies of a coupe (LZ) and a two-door cabriolet with soft top (CL). Cars were equipped with independent front suspension. Maximum speed of the first cars was 65 km/h. Release of the first generation came to the end in 1937.
Model II generation
From 1938 to 1949 the second generation was released. In addition to coupes and cabriolets, sedans became also available. Maximum speed of the updated cars increased to 112 km/h.
In the years of World War II, the Opel plant in Russelsheim was seriously damaged. So in 1940 the production of Opel Olympia was temporarily terminated. Cars began to be released again at the end of 1947. From 1949, cars were released only in a coupe body.
Model III generation
At the beginning of 1950 the third generation of Opel Olympia was presented and was released till 1953. New cars were constructed on the basis of pre-war modification of Opel Olympia. Some changes affected a car exterior: the design of the body was updated. Opel Olympia of the third generation was released in bodies of a coupe, a sedan and a cabriolet.
Model IV generation
In 1953 the design of the model was completely changed. The updated car got the name Opel Olympia Rekord. The main difference of the modernized car from the predecessor consisted in the new pontoon body. Production of the fourth generation of the model continued till 1957.
Model A
In 1967 the name "Olympia" was revived. It was received by the modification of Opel Kadett B. Opel Olympia A was released in bodies of a coupe and a sedan. In 1970 the car gave way to the new Opel Ascona model.
