Opel Tigra
Opel Tigra was produced from 1994 to 2009. In total, two generations of the model were released, the first 鈥� in a coupe body, the second 鈥� in a cabriolet body. The common features were the compact sizes and recognizable design of cars. Cars of the first generation were assembled in Zaragoza, Spain. The second generation was assembled at the plant in Cerizay, France.
Opel Tigra 袉 generation
Release of the first generation of Opel Tigra was carried out from 1994 to 2000. The car was constructed on the basis of the concept car of the same name shown within the Frankfurt motor show a year before. The platform was borrowed from Opel Corsa B.
The exterior of the car was colorful and sportive. The interior differed in simplicity and functionality. Despite the compact sizes, front seats were rather comfortable, unlike rear seats: there was obviously not enough space.
Opel Tigra had the unique design which contrasted nicely with its low cost and brought the car popularity in Europe and outside it.
Opel Tigra 袉袉 generation
After a four-year break, the German concern decided to resume the production of Opel Tigra. Cars of the second generation were released from 2004 to 2009. The updated model with the Opel Tigra Twin Top name considerably differed from the predecessor.
It was the two-seat cabriolet with the folding rigid roof developed by the French studio Heuliez. When folded, the roof remained in a compartment between seats and luggage compartment, which allowed to keep quite large volume of the boot. Opel Tigra of the second generation differ in good maneuverability and a road-holding ability, quite good dynamic characteristics.
The design of the cars of the second generation was considerably changed. The front part of the car had the trapeze shape and a prominent radiator grille trimmed with chrome, 3D-cylindrical headlights and big air inlets integrated into a bumper. Protective arches 鈥� typical attribute of racing cars - were installed behind seats. The interior was also changed: the dashboard got chrome plated inserts, aluminium trim visually connected the floor and the central console and chrome plated and aluminum elements gave to the car the similarity with sport cars.
Opel Tigra in the markets of the different countries
For the market of Great Britain, the car was produced under the name of Vauxhall Tigra, in Australia it was on sale as Holden Tigra, and the Latin American continent it was known as Chevrolet Tigra.
