Cordless drills / screw guns: what you need to know

Drills and screw guns are tools which have found wide application in car repair. The first ones are used for boring holes and, less often, for grinding a car or polishing lights; others allow perform installation or dismantling of threaded fasteners quickly and easily.

Operating principle

Drills and screw guns have similar designs. In electric tools, a motor creates rotational motion. The force is transmitted by a planetary gear to the shaft of the tool which is called a spindle. The latter is rigidly connected to the chuck which holds drill or any other working bits. Pneumatic tools are fitted, instead of a motor, with an impeller with blades driven by compressed air.
