Joggler & punch pliers: what you need to know
Joggler and punch pliers are used for making holes for rivets and threaded rod, for example. Unlike drill bits that might deform thin metal sheets, these tools allow to make holes with even edges which do not require any further processing. The catalogues also offer models that apart from perforating can bend the edge.
What are the types of joggler and punch pliers?
By the type of the drive:
- Manual. Require the application of significant muscular strength. These models are made with two handles or with a lever. Often cheap, suitable for thin work-pieces.
- Pneumatic. High-performance devices that can be used without any interruptions for a long time. Don鈥檛 require any physical effort, therefore, allow to fulfil the tasks very quickly.
- Hydraulic. As a rule, available with a built-in pump. Suitable for even thick metal sheets.
High-strength alloy steel, aluminium alloys and other corrosion resistant materials are used in the production of these tools.
Operating principle
Manual models often comprise two handles with a spring between them and working tip. As the handles being squeezed, the pin punches the sheet placed earlier in a special socket. After that, the spring returns the handles into their initial position.
The pin in pneumatic tools is operated by the energy of the compressed air, hydraulic devices work due to the pressure of the working liquid. These tools are activated by pressing the lever.
Tips on using joggler and punch pliers
Use the devices only for the intended purpose according to the manufacturer鈥檚 instructions and observe the safety precautions. Protect your face, eyes and hands from pieces of material that will be discharged during work. Don鈥檛 touch the moving parts of the tool when it is being used.
Examine the devices for the presence of damage before use. Keep them in a dry, ventilated room.
