Info on ROVER MONTEGO model - the right selection of spare parts

Rover Montego was produced in 1988-1994. This car was manufactured in Oxford and Birmingham, Great Britain.

During the period of 1984-1988 cars were produced by Austin Motor Company and were known as Austin Montego. Rover Group became manufacturer since 1988. These cars were sold without brand in Great Britain. Rover Group used car name for markets of India, Taiwan and Trinidad and Tobago.

This model replaced 2 cars - Morris Ital and Austin Ambassador. Cars were produced in sedan and wagon versions (Rover Montego Estate Countryman).

Exterior design features were straight lines of body and moldings. Sport car modifications had spoiler on its trunk. Bumpers were body colored, windscreen wipers hid under the bonnet when off. Wagon had a spacious luggage compartment. 2 additional child seats were optional. The most expensive configuration included power windows and mirrors, and central lock. Hazel veneer sheet was used for interior trim, seats were covered with leather.

Small changes touched upon a car in 1989. Mostly equipment underwent changes. New modifications were offered.

By 1990s model went out of date and was taken out of production when Rover 600 replaced it in 1993. Cars kept being produced at Cowley factory in Oxford till 1994. The last rolled off the assembly line Rover Montego is exhibited in British Car Museum in Gaydon, Warwickshire surrey.

Cars were produced under the name of MG in Great Britain. MG Montego was equipped with trip computer, navigation system with voice announcement. There were indicators of opened door and one signalizing of needed maintenance on control panel.

In 2003, FAW Group Corporation bought right to manufacture Rover Montego and Rover Maestro from Etsong company. As a result, production of Lubao CA 6410 hatchback and Jiefang CA 6440 UA Vans started in China. Hood lid was borrowed from Rover Montego.

Rover Montego was sold in India in cooperation with Sipani Automobiles Ltd. But, they didn鈥檛 gain popularity and that is why sales were stopped. Since mid-1980s till 1990s cars had been sold under the name of Austin in Taiwan and then they were renamed to Rover. Rover Montego was available for sale in Trinidad and Tobago.
